Popular memecoin-linked artificial intelligence-powered bot “Explain This Bob” has had its Twitter account suspended after Elon Musk claimed it was a “scam crypto account.” Musk made the allegation in a tweet on June 18, and shortly after, the account was seemingly suspended by Twitter. Prior to its suspension, the Explain This Bob account had amassed over 400,000 followers. The bot, created by Prabhu Biswal from India, utilized OpenAI’s GPT-4 model to comprehend and provide responses to tweets from users who tagged the account.
The project associated with Explain This Bob was also linked to the ERC-20 memecoin called Bob Token (BOB), which was launched in April. Following the suspension, the price of BOB experienced a significant drop of over 30%, as reported by CoinGecko.
This suspension marks a reversal of Musk’s earlier impression of the bot. On April 20, he tweeted “I love Bob” in response to one of its tweets, which was prominently featured on the project’s website. Interestingly, Twitter has not taken any action against the account associated with Bob Token.
The project team responded to the news of the suspension in a lighthearted manner, sharing a meme depicting Musk monitoring a distraught “Bob” in a prison. The suspension has sparked a wave of support on Crypto Twitter, with the hashtag #FREEBOB circulating. Many observers argue that BOB is not a scam coin and believe the suspension is unwarranted. They highlight that the token’s launch was conducted in a fair manner and emphasize that BOB is fully decentralized, featuring a 0% tax mechanism.
Furthermore, it has been claimed that the project team did not allocate any tokens or conduct airdrops for themselves prior to the launch of Bob Token in April. These assertions aim to refute any allegations of impropriety surrounding the project.
As the crypto community rallies behind the suspended bot, the incident highlights the growing influence of high-profile individuals in shaping the perception and fate of digital assets and associated projects. The situation with Explain This Bob serves as a reminder of the challenges and scrutiny that memecoins and AI-powered bots can face within the volatile and rapidly evolving cryptocurrency landscape.
Twitter has not reinstated Explain This Bob’s account or taken any further action. Meanwhile, supporters of the project continue to advocate for its legitimacy and the restoration of the bot’s presence on the platform.
